Post Doctoral Candidate, Licensed Psychologist Temporary

Dr. Tom Bivona, Psy.D., treats obsessive-compulsive disorder in adolescents and adults using Exposure and Response Prevention, the treatment with the strongest research support for OCD. ERP works by gradually and deliberately facing the thoughts, images, and situations that trigger obsessions while stepping back from the compulsions that briefly relieve them. Over time the anxiety loses its grip and the compulsions lose their hold.

He also treats anxiety, social anxiety, posttraumatic stress disorder, eating disorders, and depression. For trauma and PTSD he uses Prolonged Exposure Therapy and Cognitive Processing Therapy. He continues his training in exposure-based treatments through the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies annual conference.

Dr. Bivona is direct and action-oriented, and works to get patients relief as quickly as possible. He practices under the supervision of Dr. Melissa Gibson, Psy.D., HSP. Outside of clinical work, he teaches clinical psychology graduate students at Pepperdine University, Bellarmine University, and Spalding University.
